I’ve been waiting for this talk to be put on the TED website since the middle of last year when I heard Alain De Botton was to be discussing his thoughts on potential overlaps between Atheism and secular religions.
It was worth the wait.
As always, he is thought-provoking, meticulously articulate and deeply insightful. His key point is that we can all embrace the positive teachings of organised religion without having to accept the doctrines and deities.
Religion has taught us the importance of collaboration, community, education, repetitive learning and more. So even if believing in ‘God’ is akin to believing in fairies…this only represents a small amount of what religion is all about, so why not take the good parts and transform it into Atheism 2.0?
